Spyglass —

A casual eatery in the thick of Melbourne’s CBD lunch scene, Spyglass Coffee is young, fun and full of good stuff. The interior space needed to have the same casual, nonchalant vibe whilst also fitting a kitchen and espresso bar into a tight triangular space. Spyglass is a venue that wanted to feel like it had been there forever whilst also feeling fresh and like you wish it had come around sooner.

We used timber paneling and reeded glass to evoke the feeling of a neighbourhood deli diner and contrasted this with the contemporary feel of the stainless-steel menu board and the shiny branded Spyglass coffee bags. To compliment the brown tones and cool stainless steel we selected Paramount Design (SN4E2) a neutral blue with enough colour to create a subtle backdrop without overpowering the other materials in the space.

The mix of materials creates a clean and fresh looking space that is still casual and comfortable. The layout of the shop wraps the glazed facade and the shape of the shop allows for the whole servery to be on display, a stage for good coffee, sandwiches and great service.
