Yummy Mono

2025
Yummy Mono is a casual spot in the CBD for an exceptional Japanese lunch, catering to both dine-in and take-away crowds; it exudes fun, convenience, and quality.
We designed the space simultaneously with the branding for Yummy Mono. The selection of colour was key to creating a space that felt like a continuation of the brand. Shades of blue are the hero; we wanted a colour that felt immersive while visually complementing the food on offer. Splashes of orange were introduced to create contrast and complement the timber tones in the space.
The space personifies the playfulness of the brand, with graphic elements such as stickers adorning the walls and cabinetry. The line is blurred between graphic application and materials; surfaces alternate between a 100 x 100 tile and a 100 x 100 cut vinyl grid. Interspersed among the graphic elements are various configurations of the Objects for Thought Rider wall light, which creates a physical touch point to contrast against the other 2D elements. The brand has a fun and casual persona, captured by the cheeky face with its tongue stuck out. This face is a rearrangement of the Japanese characters for Yummy Mono.
While the graphic elements might catch your eye at first, the simplicity of the other materials used completes the space. Warm timber tones balance the coolness of the blue, creating a space that feels casual and comfortable for customers to dine in. The main servery houses the take-away offering. The bench is wrapped in a light blue tile with soft rounded edges, shallow display fridges are cut into the bench, allowing the product to be seen and easily accessed by customers. Yummy Mono captures the whimsy of the branding in a space that showcases the high quality, fresh food on offer from the chefs.
